Everything has gone as well as can be expected for Miles' surgery. His pain seems under control and he is alert, but confused.
Miles is doing well and over the initial nausea and other issues from being put under. He is just dealing with pain management and adjusting to the new sensation of not being able to move his legs (this is making him very angry). It is pretty clear to us that he is holding this against us, not the doctors and nurses at the hospital. Miles still has a catheter and hasn't been allowed to have any food. Both of these things don't make him very happy.
The good news: he should be going home Tuesday or Wednesday. He will probably only be in the cast for one month (significantly less than the 4-6 weeks we were quoted last November). He will also be able to have speech and occupational therapy as soon as we can figure out how to get him there. In addition, he will be able to re-start physical therapy a week after the cast is off and the kicker—once he's back doing physical therapy, he can go to the pool! So, Miles won't be missing the pool this summer after all, just half the summer. Prognosis for the whole procedure is very good and the doctor was 90% pleased with the results.
Wil is spending the first night in the room with Miles—he sent me home to get a good night's rest. That's all the news for today. I'll send an update if there is anything significant.
