Hip Surgery Day 5

6-12-07 Tuesday

After all of the excitement of yesterday, today less uneventful. Miles was disconnected from the IV and has not gotten any IV morphine since yesterday. He's now getting all of his medication through his tube. This is one step closer to home!

There was some concern that Miles' bowels hadn't started up due to the anesthesia and pain medication. We intervened and hurried that up a bit. I can assure you that there are no more concerns on that front. I can also tell you that changing Miles' diapers is going to be a two person job for quite a while. I'm sure that I'll get the hang of it. For those of you out there who are experienced diaper changers, imagine making the change with fully casted legs! I'm sure you are able to picture at least part of the challenges (the diaper is not secured, only tucked into the cast!). Don't worry, we won't post pictures!

Usually the orthopedist makes his rounds early in the day, before 10 am. It is 8:15 pm and we still haven't seen him. We hear he is in surgery, and he did answer a phone call from our nurse... Maybe he'll stop by later? More likely he'll stop by tomorrow and discharge us - we hope!

Miles did get to take a couple of laps of the floor in the rental recline wheelchair. Miles really enjoyed getting out of the room. We got to practice moving Miles out of bed and into the chair and that is good for us. He got really mad at us when we put him back into his bed in the room. Looks like someone else wants to go home too!

The first of our helper "volunteers" (my mom) arrives in Indy tomorrow. She will enjoy learning along side us. :-) Maneuvering Miles is going to generate tales for quite a while. Hopefully Day 6 will be from home!

See, we told you he was smiling more!

Getting ready to leave the room...

Vroom indeed!

Back at the end of the ride.
